On February 9th, the Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute in Thailand held the screening test for 2019 Tianjin and Thailand Vocational Education Scholarship in Dhurakij Pundit University.

In order to cultivate high-level applied talents in Thailand, promote cooperation and exchanges between higher vocational education in China and Thailand, and realize the smooth integration of “Thailand 4.0”development strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative, Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, Thai Vocational Education Commission, Tianjin Normal University and Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute continued to deepen cooperation and held the screening test for Tianjin and Thailand Vocational Education Scholarship for the fourth time. Considering the great social effects of this project, the number of grantees has increased from 35 to 70.

The scholarship is sponsored by Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. The selected students will receive an intensive Chinese training at Tianjin Normal University for one semester, and then receive a two-and-a-half-year professional training at six vocational schools in Tianjin. There are 11 majors including railway signal automatic control, EMU maintenance technology, new energy vehicle technology, tourism management and logistics management. These majors are consistent with the 7 key developing fields of the current “Thailand 4.0”development strategy, and will train more “Chinese+” talents for Thai vocational education.

This project has selected 118 students to study in Tianjin since it was started in 2015. The first 15 students have graduated and are employed in Chinese companies and large hotels in Thailand. Among the 118 students, the number of students studying high-speed rail-related majors is 35. These students will be important talent support for the construction of China-Thailand railway.

The Maritime Silk Road Confucius Institute and Thai Vocational Education Commission started this project in vocational schools of Thailand in January 2019. 155 students from 49 vocational schools in Thailand were enrolled. The examination includes two sections, a written test and an oral test. The scholarship is determined through strict procedures and professional assessment standards. After the test, the outstanding students with good Chinese knowledge and strong desire to learn will be sent to higher vocational schools in Tianjin.
